My outlook immediately changed the first time I met with my off-campus mentor, Rosemary Armao. We talked for over an hour about current events, news stations, and different forms of journalism. Although still unsure I would be intrigued by journalism, I knew I was intrigued by Rosemary.
My experience in journalism this year turned out to be everything but underwhelming. With the help of Rosemary and my on-campus mentor, Ms. McNamara, I accomplished so much. I attended a radio show to talk about gun culture in America, wrote informative articles for my school newspaper, met Jeb Bush, interviewed many interesting people. I am committed to journalism and hope to one day be the executive producer of NBC (big dreams…)
The actual presentation of my project was very rewarding. It was so cool being in front of many people and discussing my accomplishments. I also loved making the PowerPoint. I wanted to make sure it was interesting, so I included a lot of picture, audio, and video.
I highly recommend people get involved with something that interests them. Whether that be an advanced arts project, off-campus internship, or signature. It will make the year more fun and worthwhile for any student, not to mention it will be a stellar component to a college application.
I am so grateful for my experience in journalism this year. It would not have been possible without my inspiring mentors, Rosemary and Ms. McNamara.
Thanks for the final post!
